Dead Man's Chest Breaks Records and Destroys Superman

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest exploded to theatres on the past weekend, gathering $132 million dollars in ticket sales for the first 3 days. This beats the old opening weekend record ($114.8M ) set by Spider-Man in 2002. Dead Man's Chest averaged $31,945 from 4,133 theaters.

In comparison, the other big blockbuster of the summer Superman Returns made $21.9M on its second weekend, combining to a total of $142M so far. It looks like the Pirates sequel might end up doing twice or more money than Superman Returns - a surprise for all the Man of Steel fans who were convinced that it will beat the Pirates in this summers box office race.

It is already clear that Dead Man's Chest will be the number one hit of the year, and it might climb very high in different all time box office record lists.

More updates to follow as the movie breaks new records.
